September Book Haul

Hey guys,

I ended up buying quiet a few books this month so I thought I’d share them with you. If you live in Cairns, Australia, you’ll know that in the last two years there has been big Vinnies Book Sales. Now I used to volunteer there so I felt somewhat obligated to go, but obviously the main reason was the books. When you get there you are handed a bag which if you fill you only have to pay AU$35 which is crazy good. I couldn’t pass that opportunity up, now could I? The first lot I’ll be showing you are from that sale. I won’t be talking about the books because there’s a lot of them, I’ll probably just put the synopsis down. What I will say now is that pretty much all the books I got from there are books I’ve been needing i.e. books in a series I need, so I might miss the synopsis out of them for spoiler reasons for you, and also for me because it could spoil the first book if I haven’t read it yet, hope you understand lol. Enough talking, I’ll just start now.

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

Lady Midnight

‘In a kingdom by the sea. In a secret world where half-angel warriors are sworn to fight demons, parabatai is a sacred word. A parabatai is your partner in battle. A parabatai is your best friend. Parabatai can be everything to each other – but they can never fall in love. Emma Carstairs is a warrior, a Shadowhunter. She lives for battle. Alongside her Parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, she patrols Los Angeles, where vampires party on the Sunset Strip, and faeries – the most powerful of supernatural creatures – teeter on the edge of war with Shadowhunters. When the bodies of humans and faeries are found murdered in the same way Emma’s parents were when she was a child, and uneasy alliance is formed. This is Emma’s chance for revenge and Julian’s chance to get back his brother Mark, who is being held by the faerie Courts. All they have to do is solve the murders within two weeks… and before the murderer targets them. Their search takes Emma from sea caves full of sorcery to a dark lottery where death is dispensed. And each clue she unravels uncovers more secrets. What has Julian been hiding from her all these years? Why does Shadowhunter Law forbid parabatai to fall in love? Who really killed her parents – and can she bear to know the truth?’

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

Clockwork Angel

‘When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray  arrives in England during the reign of Queen Victoria, something terrifying is waiting for her in London’s Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Friendless and hunted, Tessa seeks refuge with the Shadowhunters, a band of warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons. Drawn ever deeper into their world, she finds herself fascinated by – and torn between – two best friends and quickly realises that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.’

Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

Insurgent by Veronica Roth

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Little Women 2.JPG

‘Independent, tomboyish Jo; delicate, loving Beth; pretty, kind Meg; or precocious and artistic Amy, the baby of the family. The charming story of these four “little women” and their wise and patient mother Marmee enduring hardships and enjoying adventures in Civil War New England was an instant success when first published in 1868 and has been adored for generations.’

Yes this is my 3rd copy of this book, I have this, and e-book and a World Cloud Classic edition. But in my defence, since English Lit in high school I’ve enjoyed highlighting my favourite parts in classics, and there is no way I am damaging my nice copy, and I prefer physical copies over e-books of my favourite books.

The 100 by Kass Morgan

The 100.JPG

‘Ever since a devastating nuclear war, humanity has lived on spaceships far above Earth’s radioactive surface. Now, one hundred juvenile delinquents are being sent on a dangerous mission: to recolonise the planet. It could be their second chance at life… or it could be a suicide mission. Clarke was arrested for treason, though she’s haunted by the memory of what she really did. Wells came to Earth for the girl he loves – but will she ever forgive him? Bellamy fought his way onto the transport pod to protect his sister, and Glass managed to escape, only to find that life on the ship is just as dangerous as she feared it would be on Earth. In a savage land, the hundred must fight to survive. They were never meant to be heroes, but they may be mankind’s last hope.’

Doctor Who: Diamond Dogs by Mike Tucker

Diamond Dogs.JPG

‘For over fifteen years the crew of Kollo-Zarnista Mining Facility 27 has been extracting diamonds from deep within the atmosphere of Saturn, diamonds that help to fund the ever-expanding Human Empire. But when mining operation goes wrong, a rescue mission must be launched to save a worker lost overboard, a worker who claims that he has seen something amongst the swirling clouds. Something that can’t possibly exist. When the Doctor and Bill arrive, they immediately find themselves caught between hostile miners, suspicious security guards and corrupt company company officials as they face accusations of sabotage and diamond theft. And below them, in the crushing atmosphere of the gas giant, something is starting the rise.’

So that is all the books I bought from the Vinnies Book Sale. I shall now put down the books I just got from random book shops. Again I won’t really say much about them.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.k. Rowling and Jim Kay

Harry Potter 1 Illustrated

I am slowly building up my Harry Potter Collection. Let me know if you’d like to see that. To be fair I might post it anyway when I have no ideas lol. I just need the Chamber of Secrets Illustrated and the Goblet Of Fire when that comes out.

So they are all of the books I’ve bought this month. I know it wasn’t an exciting post but I’m slowly pulling myself back into this blog, and I thought this was a good post to help me do just that. I’ve already read The Prom so if you want to know more about my feelings on that checkout my September Wrap Up! And please let me know what you think of these books if you have any opinions on them. Also what are some of the best books you’ve bought this month? I’d love to know! And don’t forget to check out my Goodreads if you’re interested in that sort of thing.

Till next time!

September Wrap Up

Hey guys, I’m back!

I’ve had quite a reading slump at the start of this month, but that has now ended. I’ve finished 4 books in the last two weeks (yey me), and I thought I’d share them with you guys. I’ll just get straight into it because yous don’t want to read a lot of waffle.

Ruthless Romans by Terry Deary

Ruthless Roman.JPG

‘Ruthless Romans reveals the grim goings-on of the greatest empire ever, from the terrible twins who founded Rome, to the evil emperors who made murder into sport. You get gory details about the cruel Colosseum – and the people and animals who were massacred there… and find out how, if you upset them enough, the ruthless Romans would crucify you.’

I started binge watching Horrible Histories on Netflix before it so rudely got took off, and it got me in the mood to read some of the books. Luckily I own 4 of them, so I had my pick. Overall I don’t know what to say about this book that hasn’t already been said about Horrible Histories, it is able to teach you so much stuff while keeping the comedy up. I love the Romans (it helps that I’m from Wallsend, named after the end of Hadrian’s Wall), so being able to learn about the gory facts that ignore the heroic parts about them. You learn enough ‘nice’ facts about the Romans in school, but not a lot about the hard truths. The illustrations inside really top it off, they really help bring the book alive. Not forgetting the jokes. When I have kids I’m definatley going to get them to grow up on Horrible Histories.

Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers by J.R.R Tolkien *Spoilers*

The Two Towers

‘The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin. Alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go.’

This is not my favourite book of the trilogy, but it is still easily a great book. The problem with it is that it is so slow. There’s no big action point apart from the battle at Helms Deep, and when they encounter Shelob, but even then they’re pretty lacking. I would have liked to read more on Merry, Pippin, and the Ents. I love their scenes in the movies and I’m a little upset they weren’t in the book very much. Especially with Merry and Pippin in general. I probably won’t be reading this books again anytime soon, but that’s just because it takes so long to read, and I hope anyone out there who is showing interest in these books still reads them, they won’t regret it.

This was so good! I completely devoured this book in one morning. It was exactly what I needed after the long book that was The Two Towers. It was so refreshing to read an LGBTQ book that isn’t about coming to terms about being gay. The main couple have already been together for a year and a half, which also means they skip past all the awkwardness. What is also great is that it doesn’t tread lightly on the homophobia, it shows how bad it can be out there, and I think it could really put some awareness in a young teen who is still naive about how bad things can get in the read world. Another thing that I like is how the principle fights for what is right for Emma and doesn’t just stay in the background and let bad things happen. I seriously need to see this musical!

Astrophysics For People In A Hurry by Neil DeGrasse Tyson

Astrophysics.JPG

‘What is the nature of space and time? How do we fit within the universe? How does the universe fir within us? Unfortunately today, few of us have time to contemplate the cosmos. So Tyson brigs the universe down to Earth succinctly and clearly with sparkling with. This book with reveal just what you need to be fluent and ready for the next cosmic headlines: from the Big Bang to black holes, from quarks to quantum mechanics, and from the search for planets to the search for life in the universe.’

First thing’s first, don’t be intimidated by this book. If you know nothing about space and think this might be too complex, you have no need to worry. I love space, but before reading Astrophysics For People In A Hurry I knew next to shit (save for some things I picked up from The Big Bang Theory). But now I know some pretty cool things. For example, whipped cream can’t float. A lot of people probably already knew that and are thinking ‘well duhh‘, but like i said, next to shit. Everything you read about in here is so fascinating, it really is a great read. I will admit though, it is a lot. It definatley gives your brain a workout, so I suggest you read it slowly. Please, learn from my mistakes lol. I’ll definatley be picking this up again to re-read certain sections.

So that’s everything I’ve read this month. I have tried to read other books, but I’ve had no such luck in finishing them yet, but I plan on finishing them before I pick up another book (for now at least, I have no self control). These are: Visual Dictionary Animals (I’m reading this in segments), Three Dark Crowns (I think I might end up DNFing that book, I’m just not enjoying it), Don’t Let My Past Be Your Future: A Call To Arms, It, Mirror Mirror, Finale, Victoria, and Oblivion. Please do not judge how many books I am in the middle of.

So yeah, that all for now folks. I’m curious as to what book was your favourite this month. And also, what do you think about Three Dark Crowns, is it worth sticking till the end? I’ve been about 170 pages in for 3 months now, but I might pick it back up with enough encouragement.

I’d say follow my Instagram dedicated to books, but I haven’t been on there in a while and I don’t know when the next time I’ll be posting. But I’m becoming a lot more organised on Goodreads if you wanna be buddy chums on there. If I’m not a complete dumbo then hopefully I’ve managed to put a link somewhere, if not do tell me please lol.

Till next time!

Tolkien Tag

Hey guys,

“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world” ~ J.R.R. Tolkien

I’ve been really into Lord Of The Rings again, I’ve grew up with Tolkien’s world and I’ve just been in a big mood for his work lately. So without further ado, let’s get into it!
This tag was created by Andrea Heckler on YouTube so go and check out her channel!

PicsArt_09-21-11.33.26.jpg

1. How did your Middle Earth begin?
My dad own all three Lord Of The Rings extended editions on DVD, and when I was about 8ish I walked in on my dad watching the first one and I thought it looked cool so he let me watch them with him. Two fun facts for you: 1) When I was younger I could never fall asleep to silence so my mam and dad would let me fall asleep with my TV on and then turned it off for me when I was fully out and Lord Of The Rings always calmed me somehow so that would always be my go to movie to fall asleep to when it was available. 2) Because my dad brought me up with the extended editions I was so used to having all them extra scenes, which led to me not being able to watch my mams normal DVD’s because I found it too boring and short. So I’ve only watched the original length DVDs once, it’s a bit of a problem since the extended DVDs are about 4 hours each, but 4 hours of Middle Earth each movie is totally worth it in my opinion.

2. What is your favourite Middle Earth book?
The Peoples Of Middle Earth by Christopher Tolkien
I don’t own this book but my dad does (there’s a mini theme here lmao) and I’ve read the majority of it and I find it fascinating. I love how it’s got more in depth information about Middle Earth that you wouldn’t really get in the original 4 books. I also really love how it’s written my J.R.R. Tolkien’s son Christopher Tolkien.

3. What is your favourite movie?
I always struggle picking which one is my favourite, but I’ll have to go with it’s Return Of The King. I think it’s an amazing conclusion to the trilogy and the acting was incredible.

4. Movies or books?
I’m going to have to go with books! The movies are great, but the books have so much more detail in them that I love.

5. Who are your favourite characters?
If any of you follow me on Instagram then you’ll know that Legolas is my favourite. Granted he doesn’t get a lot of page time, but he does get a lot more screen time which makes me happy. I also like Merry and Pippin because they bring cheer when things are going a bit dark.

6. What Middle Earth race would you be?
I’d really like to be an Elf, but I don’t have any of the grace they have or half an ounce of their beauty. I’d probably be a Hobbit. I’m not very small but I love food and sleep and nature. I’ve always loved country sides (I lived in one for about 3 or 4 years with my granddad) and Hobbiton (especially the Shire) reminds me of there. So defiantly a Hobbit.

7. Best actor/character casting match?
I really like Ian McKellen as Gandalf, for me no else could be Gandalf, they made the perfect casting choice to get Ian to be Gandalf. It’s the same for Andy Serkis as Gollum, I don’t think I’d like the movie Gollum as much as I do if it was someone else who played him.

8. What is your favourite place in Middle Earth?
Like I said in question 6, Hobbiton really reminds me of the country side and a place I live at for a few years, so as weird as it sounds it sort of strikes familiar with me (if that makes any sense).

9. What is your favourite quote from the books or movies?
My favourite book quote is: “It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
I also love it in The Fellowship Of The Ring when Boromir says: “They have a cave troll”. That line always makes me laugh.

I’m not going to tag anyone because this was just something fun to do to help me get back into the groove of things 🙂 But if you guys have already done this tag, please let me know, I love learning other peoples opinions of J.R.R. Tolkien’s work (and his sons)!

Explaining Myself

Hey guys,

“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.” ~ Neil Gaiman

I have been MIA on the blog, and that’s because I haven’t been feeling the best. A lot of things have been going on in my head, and it’s made me very forgetful. It also doesn’t help that I’m in a reading slump. And I’ve noticed that when I’m in one of those, I get in a blogging slump.
I had a plan type thing written out for my old blog page and that really worked out for me, so I’m going to go back to that, while also making sure it works around my work shifts. I only work 9-5 on Mondays and Tuesdays, but the heat in this county makes me really tired so it takes a lot out of my lazy ass.

I mean, you guys probably don’t care about any of this lmao, I doubt that this has affected is that the right one, or is it effected?) anyone’s lives, but in case someone is really polite and nice says that they’re glad I’m sorting this out, I’m sorry for being away (not like I was ever here long enough for a routine lol).
Something else that’s going to start happening: When I text my friends I use a lot of “haha’s” “lol’s” and “lmao’s”, and when I was writing out my older posts I stopped myself from doing that because found it cringey. But truth be told, I’m a very cringey person to begin with, so…. :/ If you don’t like that then tough (but don’t worry, there’s going to be better punctuation on here than there is on y texts). Also the occasional cuss word will come up and I won’t get rid of them. There’s not going to be a lot (I don’t cuss a lot anyway), but since I want this blog to seem like I’m texting my friends (and I mean, it IS my blog) I’m not going to stop doing it. I thought I’d put this in as a sort of ‘warning’. So if anyone has a problem with that kind of language, sorry (I’m not really lmao).

Coming up:

There should be a Tolkien Tag being posted soon! It’ll be up either later today or tomorrow morning. It depends on what time this post goes up.
I will also be posting a spoiler heavy book review of A Song Only I Can Hear by Barry Jonsberg. I’ve had it drafted for a while, I just need to edit it
I don’t have any other ideas set in stone yet, so if you guys want to recommend something for me to do, I’m all ears, although since I’ll be reading them, I’m all eyes… It doesn’t have the same ring to it does it? Oh well.

I’ve been wanting to post this for a while, but I’m a lazy ass who only feels productive at about 1:30 am, it’s no wonder why there are bags under my eyes. Also I get distracted so badly! For example: When I was writing out the Tolkien Tag I somehow ended up watching a 2 hour behind the scenes video of The Battle Of Five Armies. I seriously don’t know how I do it.

Anyway….
Till next time

My TBR Books

Hey guys,

“The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid” ~ Jane Austen

I was looking at my bookshelves the other day and I realised I have a quite a few unread books (I’m not going to lie, some of the books on my tbr are a little embarrassing). And it made me think, why don’t I show people my “I can’t believe I haven’t read these books yet shelf”. I will be talking about the books, but I don’t know how, so this post might be a bit messy, but that’s just like my brain which means this post will be very ‘Emma’, if that makes any sense (which it probably doesn’t).

S by J.J. Abrams and Doug Dorst
S“A young woman picks up a book left behind by a stranger. Inside it are his margin notes, which reveal a reader entranced by the story and by its mysterious author. She responds with notes of her own, leaving the book for the stranger, and so begins an unlikely conversation that plunges them both into the unknown. – THE BOOK – Ship Of Theseus, the final novel by a prolific but enigmatic writer name V.M. Straka, in which a man with no past is shanghaied onto a strange ship with a monstrous crew and launched on a disorientating and perilous journey. – THE WRITER – Straka, the incendiary and secretive subject of one of the world’s greatest mysteries, a revolutionary about whom the world knows nothing apart from the words he wrote and the rumours that swirl around him. – THE READERS – Jennifer and Eric, a college senior and a disgraced grad student, both facing crucial decisions about who they are, who they might become, and how much they’re willing to trust another person with their passions, hurts and fears.”
I’ve had this book for almost a year now. One of my mams old client knew I love reading and she was giving a bunch away. If I’m being honest with you, I still don’t really understand what this is about, and I have no idea when I’ll get to it, but I know I will read it sometime in the future. I’m looking forward to reading it because it has cool stuff inside it that you can take out which helps make you part of the story, and I think that is amazing.
Desperation to read this: 3/5

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
Jane Eyre“Orphaned as a child, Jane has felt an outcast her whole young life. Her courage is tested once again when she arrives at Thornfield Hall, where she has been hired by the brooding, proud Edward Rochester to care for his ward Adèle. Jane finds herself drawn to his troubled yet kind spirit. She falls in love. Hard. But there is a terrifying secret inside the gloomy, forbidding Thornfield Hall. Is Rochester hiding from Jane? Will Jane be left heartbroken and exiled once again?”
I got this is one of the two stories in one book (the other is Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, which I’ve read). I’ve wanted to read Jane Eyre for quite some time, but I never had a copy of it and I could never find it in the library. Now that I have it, it shouldn’t take me too long to pick it up once I’m in the mood for it (I’m very picky when it comes to when I want to read a classic). And if I enjoy this as much as I enjoyed Wuthering Heights, I know I’m going to love it for quite a while.
Desperation to read this: 4/5

King Of Ashes by Raymond E. Feist
King Of Ashes“Garn once boasted five great kingdoms – until Ithrace was betrayed. It’s royal family, the flame-haired Firemanes, was not even saved by its affinity with fire: every one of them was executed by the King of Sandura. Now four kingdoms remain, out of balance and on the brink of war. But there are whispers that a newborn Ithraci heir may have been smuggled away… Terrified, the four kings place a bounty on the child’s head, lest the boy grow up with revenge in his heart. Declan is a gifted apprentice to a master blacksmith in a peaceful village learning an ancient craft – until slavers descend to capture men to press as soldiers for Sandura. forcing him to run for his life, carrying with him his priceless knowledge of the forging of jewel-steel. On the secret island of the Quelli Nascosti assassins, three young friends are being schooled in the arts of espionage and killing: Donte, son of a senior master: Hava, a fierce girl and gifted fighter: and Hatu, a strange, conflicted boy in whom fury and calm war constantly, whose hair is a bright and fiery shade of red…”
I have only recently bought King Of Ashes, so it’s not as embarrassing for me as some of the other books I’ll be telling you about. This is a biiig book, and depending on how much free time I have will determine how quickly I’ll read this, it seems like such a good book and I might even fly through it. I might even pick this up at the beginning of next month if I’m not already reading something.
Desperation to read this: 4/5

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick
Black Ice“Britt Pfeiffer has never been very adventurous, but that’s about to change. Wanting to impress her ex-boyfriend, Britt convinces her best friend, Korbie, to take a hiking trip with her. But when a freak storm leaves the girls stranded, they seek shelter in a secluded cabin- where they find two handsome rescuers. Or so they think. Britt realises that she and Korbie need to get off the mountain fast, and so begins a treacherous journey through the ice and snow. But is gorgeous, mysterious Mason an enemy – or an Ally?”
Black Ice comes in 2nd place for “been on my self the longest” category. The first thing that put me off reading it was that I heard a lot of negative reviews about Becca Fitzpatrick and it did put me off for a little bit. But then I thought to myself ‘I shouldn’t judge something because of what people say, I need my own opinion of it’…and yet I still haven’t read it. I don’t know why, but I’ve never been in a big mood for this. I might read it soon, it might even go to first place, I guess only time will tell.

The Cousins War Series by Philippa Gregory
There are 6 books in this series and I own, 2, 3, 4 & 5

I have already read The White Princess thanks to Queen Lolo, and I really enjoyed it, so I know I’ll enjoy the rest. They weren’t books I was desperate to buy, but when I saw them for only $3 each, I lost all will power and I bought them. There can be two ways to read these book. The first order is publication date: The White Queen, The Red Queen, The Lady Of The Rivers, The Kingmaker’s Daughter, The White Princess, and The King’s Curse. The other way is in historical order, which is basically the same but I’d read The Lady Of The Rivers first. I might wait till I have The White Queen, but I don’t think I NEED to read that before I read The Red Queen.
The White QueenThis tells the story of a woman of extraordinary beauty and ambition who, catching the eye of the newly crowned boy king, marries him in secret and ascends to royalty. While Elizabeth rises to the demands of her exalted position and fights for the success of her family, her two sons become central figures in a mystery that has confounded historians for centuries: the missing princes in the Tower of London whose fate is still unknown. From her uniquely qualified perspective, Philippa Gregory explores this most famous unsolved mystery of English history, informed by impeccable research and framed by her inimitable storytelling skills.”
The Red Queen“Heiress to the red rose of Lancaster, Margaret Beaufort never surrenders her belief that her House is the true ruler of England and that she has a great destiny before her. Her ambitions are disappointed when her sainted cousin, Henry VI of England, fails to recognise her as a kindred spirit, and even more when he sinks into madness. Worst of all for Margaret is when she discovers her mother is sending her to a loveless marriage in remote Wales. Married to a man twice her age, and a mother at only fourteen, Margaret is determined to turn her lonely life into a triumph. She sets her heart on putting her son Henry on the throne of England regardless of the cost. Disregarding rival heirs and the overwhelming power of York dynasty, she sends Henry into exile and pledges him in marriage to the daughter of her enemy Elizabeth Woodville. She feigns loyalty to the usurper King Richard III, marries one of his faithful supporters and then masterminds one of the greatest rebellions of the time – all the while knowing that her son is growing to manhood, recruiting an army, his eyes on the greatest prize.”
The Lady Of The Rivers“Descended from Melusina, the river goddess, Jacquetta has always had the gift of second sight. As a child visiting her uncle, she meets his prisoner, Joan of Arc, and sees her own power reflected in the young woman accused of witchcraft. Married to the Duke of Bedford, English Regent of France, Jacquetta is introduced by him to a mysterious world of learning and alchemy. Her only friend in the great household is the Duke’s squire, Richard Woodville, who is at her side when the Duke’s death leaves her a wealthy young widow. The two become lovers and marry in secret, returning to England to serve at the court of the young King Henry VI, where Jacquetta becomes a close and loyal friend to his new queen. The Woodvilles soon achieve a place at the very heart of the Lancaster court, though Jacquetta can sense the growing threat from the people of England and the danger of royal rivals. The king slides into a mysterious sleep; Margret, his queen, turns to untrustworthy favourites for help; and Richard Duke of York, threatens to overturn the whole kingdom for his rival dynasty of the House of York. Jacquetta fights for her king, her queen, and for her daughter Elizabeth Woodville, a young woman for whom Jacquetta can sense an extraordinary and unexpected future: a change of fortune, the throne of England, and the white rose of York.”
The Kingmaker’s Daughter“Anne Neville and her sister Isabel are daughters of the most powerful magnate in the 15th-century England, the Earl of Warwick, nicknamed the ‘Kingmaker’. Ever ruthless, always plotting, in the absence of a son and heir, Warwick sets about using his daughters as pawns in his vicious political games. Anne grows from a delightful child, brought up at the court of Edward IV and his beautiful queen, Elizabeth Woodville, in intimacy and friendship with the family of Richard, Duke of Gloucester. Her life is overturned when her father turns on his former allies, escapes England and invades with an enemy army. Widowed at fourteen, fatherless, with her mother locked in sanctuary, and her sister a vengeful enemy, Anne faces the world alone. But fortune’s wheel turns once again. Anne plots her escape from her sister’s house, finds herself a husband in the handsome young Duke of Gloucester, and marries without permission, in secret. But danger still follows her. She finds that she has a mortal enemy in the most beautiful queen Of England. Anne has to protect herself and her precious only son from the treacherous royal court, the deadly royal rival, and even from the driving ambition of her husband – Richard III.”
The White Princess“Somewhere beyond the shores of England, a pretender is mustering an army. He claims to be brother to the queen, and the true heir to the throne/ But is he the lost boy sent into the unknown by his mother, the White Queen? Or a counterfeit prince – a lowborn enemy to Henry Tudor and his York princess wife? When Henry Tudor picked up the crown of England from the mud of Bosworth Field he knew he would have o marry the princess of the rival house – Elizabeth of York – in an effort to unify a country divided by war for nearly two decades. But his bride was still in love with his enemy – and her mother and half of England still dreamed of a missing her and a triumphant return for the House of York. The new Queen Elizabeth has to decide if she can stand by a king whose support and courage are crumbling before her eyes. She has to choose between Tudor and York, between her new husband and the boy who claims to be her beloved lost brother: the rose of York come home at last.”
The Kings Curse“Regarded as yet another threat to the volatile King Henry VII’s claim to the throne, Margaret Pole, cousin to Elizabeth of York (known as the White Princess) and daughter of George, Duke of Clarence, is married off to a steady and kind Lancaster supporter—Sir Richard Pole. For his loyalty, Sir Richard is entrusted with the governorship of Wales, but Margaret’s contented daily life is changed forever with the arrival of Arthur, the young Prince of Wales, and his beautiful bride, Katherine of Aragon. Margaret soon becomes a trusted adviser and friend to the honeymooning couple, hiding her own royal connections in service to the Tudors. After the sudden death of Prince Arthur, Katherine leaves for London a widow, and fulfills her deathbed promise to her husband by marrying his brother, Henry VIII. Margaret’s world is turned upside down by the surprising summons to court, where she becomes the chief lady-in-waiting to Queen Katherine. But this charmed life of the wealthiest and “holiest” woman in England lasts only until the rise of Anne Boleyn, and the dramatic deterioration of the Tudor court. Margaret has to choose whether her allegiance is to the increasingly tyrannical king, or to her beloved queen; to the religion she loves or the theology which serves the new masters. Caught between the old world and the new, Margaret Pole has to find her own way as she carries the knowledge of an old curse on all the Tudors.”

31 Bond Street by Ellen Horan
31 Bond Street“When the brutally stabbed and nearly decapitated body of a society dentist is found in his town house at 31 Bond Street in lower Manhattan, this is the question that grips America for months. All the evidence points to his elegant and mysterious lodger and housekeeper, Emma (*wink wink, nudge nudge*) Cunningham, who is immediately put under arrest and soon charged with murder. A conviction is sure to catapult flamboyant district attorney Abraham Oakey Hall into the mayor’s seat. But one formidable obstacle stands in his way: the defence attorney Henry Clinton who risks his whole career to help prove the vulnerable widow’s innocence.”
I am actually planning on reading this book this month ( go check out my Instagram 😉 ) and I’m looking forward to it! It seems like a really good book, and I’ve been into crimes set in the past lately, and there seems to be a lot of good ratings for this. Fingers crossed it’s as good as I hope it will be! Just thought that I’d mention tat this is set 4 years before the outbreak of the American Civil War, and is based on a true story.

Tales Of Suspense by Edgar Allen Poe
Tales Of SuspenceI really like Edgar Allen Poe, I think his writing is great. My favourite piece he’s done is (this is going to be a typical answer I think) The Raven, there’s something enticing about it and I know I won’t get bored of it no matter how many times I’ll read it. When I do finally open this I’ll read one part at a time, I don’t think it’d be a great idea to read all of these in one go.

Crave The Mark by Veronica Roth
Crave The Mark
“CRYA is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gift gives her pain and power – something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet and smarter than he knows. AKOS is the son of a farmer and an oracle from the frozen nation-planet of Thuvhe. Protected by his unusual currentgift, Akos is generous in spirit, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive – matter what the cost. Then Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, and the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. Will they help each other to survive, or will they destroy one another?”
I’m honesty not too sure why I haven’t read this book yet, it seems like something I’d enjoy. I guess when I’m looking for something to read from my shelf Crave The Mark isn’t the first thing that pops into mind. At least now when I do read it, the sequel is out so I won’t have to wait forever for it.

Star Wars Revenge Of The Sith by Matthew Stover
Revenge Of The SithYep, you read that right, I own Star Wars Episode III as a book. This is 1st place on for “been on my self the longest” category. I was going to read this on Star Wars day and I don’t know why I didn’t. I’m not desperate to read this, this is on my “eh” self. I’m not bothered if I read it or if I don’t, and I don’t normally feel that way towards books.

The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor
The Looking Glass Wars“Murder. Bloodshed. War. The true story of Wonderland… Alyss was destined to become Wonderland’s beloved Queen. Until her life was shattered. Seeing her parents killed she seeks refuge in our world. Years later she returns. Her evil aunt now rules the land. Shrieking Seekers command the air. And deep in the darkness something far more frightening is watching. And waiting. Purring with anticipating…”
I really want to get into this book soon, but it’s part of a series and I have a feeling that I’ll go insane if I don’t read the second one after it. From what I’m getting from the synopsis, I can tell I’m going to enjoy it. Let’s hope I actually pick this book up soon.

Sense And Sensibility by Jane Austen
Sense And Sensibility“Marianne Dashwood wears her heart on her sleeve, and when she falls in love with the dashing but unsuitable John Willoughby she ignores her sister Elinor’s warning that her impulsive behaviour leaves her open to gossip and innuendo. Meanwhile Elinor, always sensitive to social convention, is struggling to conceal her own romantic disappointment, even from those closest to her. Through their parallel experience of love—and its threatened loss—the sisters learn that sense must mix with sensibility if they are to find personal happiness in a society where status and money govern the rules of love.”
If I enjoy this as much as I enjoy Pride And Prejudice, I know I’m going to fly though this. I’ve been in a very classic reads lately, so it probably won’t be too long till I pick this book up. And I’m just throwing this out there, how gorgeous is this cover? I have three of these World Cloud Classic books (this, Little Women, and The Jungle Book) and this one is my favourite. I this the pink writing looks great against the black.

Six Of Crows and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

Six Of Crows“Criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker has been offered wealth beyond his wildest dreams. But to claim it, he’ll have to pull off a seemingly impossible heist: Break into the Ice Court (a military stronghold that has never been breached), retrieve a hostage (who could unleash magical havoc on the world), survive long enough to collect hiss reward (and spend it). Kaz needs a crew desperate enough to take on this suicide mission and dangerous enough to get the job done – and he knows exactly who: six of the deadliest outcasts the city has to offer. Together, they just might be unstoppable – if they don’t kill each other first.”
Crooked Kingdom I’m not going to talk about this one in case it has spoilers 🙂
Please don’t hate me for not reading these yet. I’ve had them for a little while now, but I’ve never picked them up yet, and I don’t know why. If my plans this month go well (which I don’t think they will), I will have Six Of Crows read by the end of June. I really hope that happens because every month I don’t read them, I hate myself a little more.

Three Dark Crowns and One Dark Throne Kendare Blake

Three Dark Crowns“In every generation on the Island of Fennbirn a set of triplets is born: Three queens, all equal heirs to the crown, all possessed of a coveted magic. MIRABELLA, a fierce elemental, can spark hungry flames with the click of a finger. KATHARINE, a poisoner, is known to be resistant to the deadliest of snake bites. ARSINOE, a naturalist, is rumoured to have the ability to bloom the reddest of roses. But becoming the Queen Crowned is not just a matter of royal birth. These three sisters must fight to the death for the throne, and on the night they turn sixteen the battle begins. Only one queen can inherit the crown.”
One Dark ThroneI’m not going to talk about this one in case it has spoilers 🙂
I’ve owned Three Dark Crowns since the beginning of 2017, and I honestly don’t know why I haven’t read it yet. I know I’m going to like it, and yet I haven’t opened it. Luckily I own One Dark Throne so if there is a big cliff hanger, I can go straight into that.

The Name Of This Book Is Secret by Pseudonymous Bosch
The Name Of This Book Is Secret“Two extraordinary adventures… a missing magician’s diary… a symphony of smells… and a deadly secret.”
I have a bit of a petty story as to why I haven’t read this yet. The fist thing you’ve got to know is that during this story my English class had a different teacher (who was horrible) on Wednesdays just for reading (the teacher was so bad she actually checked your eyes to see if they were moving so she would know if you were really reading). I got The Name Of This Book Is Secret in year 8 for free (I would have been 12) but I was already reading a book at the time, so obviously I wasn’t about to stop halfway through the first book. Now fast forward about 2 months, the teacher decided to check what books we were reading to see if they were appropriate for us. So, it was time for her to check my book (which was this one), and when I look up I see her face has morphed into a confused and angry look, then she says “Is this one of them free books?” (all I could do was nod) “How are you still reading this? I’ am appalled that it has taken this long for you only to get half way!”. And I tell her I only just started it, but she was having none o it, “I don’t want to hear excuses, this is disgusting!”. Two people tried to stand up for me but EVERYONE was scared of her. So after that lesson I was thinking “She wants me to read it, so I won’t!” because 12 year old me thought that was a pretty mean thing to do to a scary teacher… and every time I look at the book I get the horrible flash back of that day and it keeps me away. I think that’s also why the cover is a mess, because I wanted extreme pettiness. I should probably read it soon though.

Books 2-6 in the Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare
(I only own the first 3 books)

I’m not going to write what they’re about because you can never be too careful with spoilers 🙂
I haven’t owned these books for long, and I read City Of Bones about 2 months ago which I enjoyed so it probably won’t be long till I read the next one. I’m not in a really big rush to read City Of Ashes just yet so it might be in the next month or two when I read it. And I have no idea when I’ll read City Of Glass. The editions I have are the ones that make a picture with the spines, so I’m looking forward to getting the rest to make it complete.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
Gone Girl“Who are you? What have we done to each other? These are the questions Nick Dunne finds himself asking on the morning of his fifth wedding anniversary, when his wife Amy suddenly disappears. The police suspect Nick. Amy’s friends reveal that she was afraid of him, that she kept secrets from him. He swears it isn’t true. A police examination of his computer shows strange searches. He says they weren’t made by him. And then there are the persistent calls on his mobile phone. So what did happen to Nick’s beautiful wife?”
I have no excuse for not reading Gone Girl yet. I’m disappointed in myself, but that the same time I don’t really care. I don’t know when I’ll read it, I just know I will at some point in my life. As you can tell I have mixed feelings about this book being on my TBR, at the moment I’m not fussed that I haven’t read it but that’ll probably change next month. I know it’s a good book because of how many people have said it, so I know I’ll most likely enjoy it.

According To YES by Dawn French
According To YES“Manhattan’s wealthy Upper East Side has its own rigid code of behaviour. One strictly adhered to by the Wilder-Bingham family. Emotional displays – unacceptable. Unruly behaviour – definitely not welcome. Fun – no thanks. So when Rosie Kitto, an eccentric primary school teacher from England, bounces into this fortress of restraint with a heart as big as the city, the family quickly discovers that she hasn’t read the rule book. After a lifetime of saying no, what happens when everyone starts saying…yes?”
I LOVE Dawn French, so I’m really upset with myself that I haven’t read this yet but I also can’t seem to pick it up and I don’t know why. I must admit that I don’t really read books like this so that might be it, or it could be my brain being mean to me saying that I don’t want to read it, when I really do. You’re probably thinking (probably not) why I bought it if I don’t like that type of book, well dear people… I cover and author bought before I even read what the book was about.

Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen
Water For Elephants“In Depression-era America, everyone’s running away from something. Some people join the circus to escape. Jacob Jankowski hitches a ride on a freight train and in an instant his life changes. By morning, he’s landed a job with the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth. By nightfall, he’s in love.”
This book was on my ‘Need To Buy’ shelf for quite some time, and the thing that pushed me to buy it was the movie soundtrack. My UK Spotify had a Reading Playlist, on that was a bunch of movie scores and a lot of the music from Water For Elephants were on the playlist and I loved them. When I bought it I read 80 pages of it (and I really enjoyed then 80 pages), but then I had to start revising for exams and reading was a big distraction for me. Then when my exams finished I ended up reading different books and I have unfortunately not picked this up again, but I mean to do so very soon!

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
Cruel Beauty“Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her Kingdom – all because of a reckless bargain her father struck. And since birth, she has been training to kill him. Betrayed by her family yet bound to obey, Nyx rails against her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, she abandons everything to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, disarm him, and break the centuries-old curse he put on her people. But Ignifex is not what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle – a shifting maze of magical rooms – enthrals her. As Nyx tries to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex’s secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. But even if she could bring herself to lover her sworn enemy, could she refuse her duty to kill him?”
I am a sucker for fairy tale retellings, as soon as I find one I really want to read it. So when I found out about Cruel Beauty I really wanted it, but it always slipped my mind because I never saw it almost everyday like I do with a lot of books, but when I saw this on sale at my local bookshop I didn’t hesitate to buy it. Reading it is a different matter though, I haven’t owned it for very long but I haven’t been in the mood to read it yet, but that day will come soon enough. I will also want to read (once I’ve bought it) Crimson Bound because I’ve always liked the story of Little Red Riding Hood.

Everless“In the land of Sempra, the rich control everything – even time. Ever since the age of alchemy and sorcery, hours, day and years have been extracted from blood and bound to iron coins. The rich live for centuries; the poor bleed themselves dry. Jules and her father are behind on their rent and low on hours. To stop him from draining himself to clear their debts., Jules takes a job at Everless, the grand estate of the cruel Gerling family. There, Jules encounters danger and temptation in the guise of the Gerling heir, Roan, who is soon to be married. But the web of secrets at Everless stretches beyond her desire, and the truths she must uncover will change her life for ever… and possibly the future of time itself.”
I bought this on a whim at the airport when I was going to Sydney in February because it reminded me of Caraval by Stephanie Garber, (if you don’t know I am IN LOVE with Caraval and Legendary (Finale needs to be out already!)) so I was obviously going to but this book! It seems like it has a really cool concept. I ended up reading the 1st chapter on the plane (I know it’s not a lot but I was asleep for the majority of the ride) and if the rest of the book is written like that, then I know I’m going to enjoy it!

The Line Of Beauty by Alan Hollinghurst
The Line Of Beauty“It is the summer of 1983, and young Nick Guest, an innocent in matters of politics and money, has moved into an attic room in the Notting Hill home of the Feddens: Gerald, an ambitious new Tory MP, his wealthy wife Rachel, and their children Toby and Catherine. As the boom years of the mid-80s unfold, Nick becomes caught up in the Feddens’ world, while pursuing his own private obsession, with beauty – a prize as compelling to him as power and riches are to his friends. An early affair with a young black council worker gives him his first experience of romance; but it is a later affair. with a beautiful millionaire, that brings into question the larger fantasies of a ruthless decade.”
I’m not going to lie, I cover bought this book but can you blame me? It’s beautiful! Then when I got back home I read what it was about, and it seems pretty good. Maybe not one that I would buy straight away if there was a lot of other books stood out to me, but I have my fingers crossed for it to be a good book.

Claire De Lune by Christine Johnson
Claire De Lune.JPG“Hanover Falls hasn’t had a werewolf problem in over one hundred years, but when people suddenly start dying in Claire Benoit’s town, panic spreads fast. The gruesome killings are all anyone can talk about at Claire’s sixteenth birthday party, though the only thing on Claire’s mind is gorgeous Matthew Engle chatting and flirting with her as if she’s the only girl there. But that night, Claire discovers something that takes away all sense of normality: she’s a werewolf. Claire knows she must keep her changing identity a secret, especially from Matthew , whose father is leading the werewolf hunt. But then a rouge werewolf threatens to put everyone she knows in danger. Struggling to feel comfortable in either skin, and with her lupine loyalty at odds with her human heart, Claire is forced to make a choice that will change her forever.”
My mam picked this book out for me because she knows I like fantasy animals like werewolves, but to me it sounds like it’s going to be a very cheesy story and I’m not overly fond of them. I will probably read it eventually because I could be wrong but there’s a very high chance that I’m not.

I haven’t owned this book for very long but it seems like a very good book so I doubt it’ll take me long to pick it up. I think the concept of it seems really cool, I haven’t read anything like this (at least I don’t think I have) and I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy this. And Darcy Anderson discovers a box containing her husband’s dark and terrifying secrets – he’s not just the man who keeps his nails short and collects coins. And now he’s heading home…”
I got this as a present two Christmas’s ago and I can never keep the synopsis in my head, which is bad because while writing it there, it seems pretty good. Because it’s a Stephen King book I might wait to read this till October, set the mood a bit. The books I normally get as gifts I usually end up liking because my friends have great taste, so I’m not too worried about not liking this but I’m not building up my hopes for it.

I’ve already read 100 pages of Heartless, but then after these pages I got into a major reading slump so I couldn’t get myself to finish the book. I don’t really know why I haven’t picked it up again because I love Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland and The Queen Of Hearts is one of my favourite villains. So the sooner I read this the better I’ll feel.

Don’t get too close to anyone’. Then Jack meets Libby. And their worlds change Because sometimes when you meet someone, the whole universe just comes into focus.”
This is another book that was gifted to me (great words Emma). I’m not particularly bothered that I haven’t read this yet, I will eventually but it’s not on my ‘Oh My God read this NOW’ list. Plot lines like this don’t scream out at me but I’m willing to give it a go eventually (I’m acting like it’s did me some great injustice in the past lmao). I don’t really know what else to say about this…. The cover is nice though.

The Emerald Atlas by John Stephens
The Emerals Atlas“Three children. Two worlds. One prophecy. They were snatched from their beds in the dead of night, when the world was covered in snow. Ten years on, Kate, Michael and Emma have grown up in a string of miserable orphanages, and all memories of their parents have faded. Arriving in the eerily silent Cambridge Falls, the children quickly realise there is something strange going on… With the discovery of an old leather book, an ancient magical prophecy is set in motion which will take them on the adventure of several lifetimes, to worlds outside their own. Only they have the power to save the town – and their own future.”
This is on my ‘I got this book when I thought I really liked reading but I was just kidding myself’ shelf. I did have a phase where I was so sure I enjoyed reading so I would buy a few book, start them, put them down and never pick them up again. This is definitely one of them books. It seems cool, there’s an Emma so it must be 😉 but I know its part of a longish series and I know that if I don’t like The Emerald Atlas I’m still going to want the next books and I don’t want to lose money over something I don’t like, so I’m taking my time in picking it up.

I bought this book thinking it was something else, and I’m not sure if I’m actually going to read this. I’ll probably give it a try, but I’ll probably just give it away if I don’t like it. I think Above The Fold has a good concept to it. I’m a sucker for Historical Fiction so I’m looking forward to reading this. It’s not high on my ‘Oh My God read this NOW’ list, but it’s not very low either so I honestly have no idea when I’m going to read this.
Desperation to read this: 3/5

Hey Diddle Diddle, The Corpse And The Fiddle by Fran Rizer
Hey Diddle Diddle, The Corpse And The Fiddle“Mortuary cosmetologist Callie Parrish is thrilled to pack up her banjo and take off with her best friend, Jane, for a bluegrass festival on Surcie Island. A whole weekend of her favourite kind of music, Gullah food, and fun in the sun is just what Callie needs to erase the memory of being locked in a casket last fall. But somehow, she just can’t seem to leave her work behind her… Little Fiddlin’ Fred might be tiny in stature, but he’s huge in the bluegrass world. When his dead body tumbles out of a bass case onstage, the festival erupts in chaos. Local cops advise Callie not to get involved, but when Jane discovers a second corpse – and then disappears – Callie has no choice. Her sleuthing leads her to a widow too busy flirting to mourn, another fiddler awfully eager to fill in, and a water witch convinces he can find whatever treasures might be hiding under the sand – but Callie will also learn that on an island, you tend to keep going in circles.”
I bought this book because I thought it’ll be like the Stephen And Mephisto Mystery books (which I absolutely love). Lately I have been into historic crime even when they aren’t based on true crimes, I love feeling the suspense and mystery of it all and I hoping Hey Diddle Diddle makes me feel that. I’m hoping it makes me shocked when I find out who the killer is.
Desperation to read this: 4/5

And that is my list of tbr books. I must admit it took longer to write this than I thought it was, but I finished it eventually. I know I said this on my last post, but I will be posting more now. I have no idea what is coming next but I’ll get to that eventually.

My Favourite Book Designs

_20180718_151820

Hey Guys

“I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.” ~ Jorge Luis Borges

I watched a video the other day of most beautiful book covers, and it gave me an idea. In my opinion all books are beautiful in their own way, so I’m incorporating that video into a post of my favourite pretty books. Now, some of these may not be pretty to you, but I have my reasons why the book are on here, and you will be told them reasons. Also these aren’t in favouritism order, but the order they are on my bookshelf.

King Of Ashes by Raymond E. Feist
King Of AshesThe King Of Ashes cover is a bit plain, but when you look closely you can see the detail. So obviously the first thing you see is the crown, which is nicely detailed with crevasses for a design and has red and black jewels. Then you see the smoke coming off of the crown and watch it turn to embers, and if you look closely behind the crown you can see coal. Like I said before, it’s a very simple cover but I think that what detailed has been put in is amazing.

The Christmasaurus by Tom Fletcher
The ChristmasaurusI think this is a beautiful cover because of not just the look of it but the feel of it. Obviously its got gorgeous colours on it and the yellow writing goes so well with the white and the light blue. Then there’s the dinosaur itself, you can see all the detail that’s been put into it so it’s not just a cartoonish image. When you feel the cover its got texture, the snowflakes are bumpy as are the fairy light that are around the dinosaur.

Caraval and Legendary by Stephanie Garber

Of course I was going to have these two (technically 3) books on here.
Caraval (UK edition) is beautiful, I love how the writing is curvy but easy to read with the tear drop under the A. And how there’s a few stars mixing in the stripes, they kind of remind me of sparklers). Then there’s the back of the book, it’s the same design basically but its white with black stripes instead of the black background and gold stripes.
Legendary (UK edition) is just as beautiful as Caraval. I love how there is a cluster of gold stars making a ring around the title. I also like how there is a tear drop again, but this time it’s under the G. And on the back (which is white) the black stars seem to explode outwards around the synopsis.
I also have the US Legendary, because I saw it at the bookshop near me and I couldn’t resist buying it. I love how there’s blue detailing on the each of the corners, and the club in the middle of the book is filled with rose petals. And then the gold writing is beautiful and flowy and when you look closer you can see hints of red in it and I think it’s amazing. And then there’s the back which shows you the invitation for Caraval!
I can’t get enough of these books!

Life Of Pi by Yann Martel
Life Of Pi 1I have a lot of reasons for loving this cover. So to start off with I’ll just talk about the front: It’s simple but it stands out at the same time. When I look at this my eyes are instantly drawn to the tiger, the orange is so bold against the white of the boat, and not only that but the way the tiger is taking up the majority of the boat with Pi huddled up on the other side because that really shows the ‘relationship’ these two had. Another thing I love about the cover are the sea animals, when you look at them you can see squiggled lines on them from the water, which I like because it’s the small details like that which I find amazing. Now I’m going to talk about the back of the book: I love how the back is designed like a rusty boat and I think it’s amazing because the more I think about it, what else could it be?

Children Of Blood And Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
Children Of Blood And Bone.JPGThere’s only one word that comes to mind when I think of this cover: Wow. There’s so much detail to it and I love it! When you look at the girls face (I’m presuming it’s Zélie) you can see so much, like the detail on her forehead, her eyelashes, her cheekbones, etc… Then there’s the hair! The white stands out so beautifully, and there are certain strands that are a silvery mirror type material (I can’t think of the correct name) so when light hits the book it, it reflects off of the material. Another thing I like about the hair is how it swishes in, out, and around the title, so the words are incorporated into the cover and it’s not just stuck on there. I love how the colour of the title (including Tomi Adeyemi’s name) transitions from a bright read to a dark red/brown colour. I honestly think this cover is beautiful!

World Cloud Classics

I’m putting Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, Sense And Sensibility by Jane Austen, and The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling (soon to be more) together because they are very similar, but I also want to talk about them separately. The one thing that is on all of these covers that I love is the small quotes all over the front, as well as the main characters!
Little Women – First off, I just want to say how much I love this orange, it’s so bright! I live how the title of this one is a foil type material that’s silver but when a light hits it, it’s a light purple. And then on the back they chose a quote from the book which made me happy and sad, here’s the quote (I’m also going to show you want it looks like): “I’m not like THE REST of you; I never made any PLANS about what I’d do when I GREW UP; I never THOUGHT of being married, as you did. I couldn’t seem to IMAGINE myself ANYTHING but stupid little Beth, trotting about at HOME, of no use anywhere but THERE. I never wanted to go away, and the HARD part now is LEAVING you all.” I’m happy because they put a quote of Beth and she’s my favourite and deserves more appreciation; I’m sad because of the meaning behind the quote… anyone who has read this will know why it makes me sad.
Sense And Sensibility – The blue cover and the pink writing have killed me! I’m not normally a fan of pink, but this is amazing! I love the font of the title and Jane Austen’s name, especially the A in Austin, I don’t know why. I haven’t read this but I really like the quote on the back, so I’m going to tell you it: “After all that is BEWITCHING in the IDEA of a single and constant ATTACHMENT, and all that can be said of one’s HAPPINESS depending entirely on any particular PERSON, it is not meant- it is not fit- it is not POSSIBLE that it SHOULD be so.” I don’t really know why I like this quote, but I do. You never know, I can’t dislike it once I’ve read the book. Who knows?
The Jungle Book – This is the same orange as Little Woman but it looks different to me, it’s nice though. I also really like that the title is a felt type material which feels really nice. And because I did it for the last two, I’m going to share the quote on the back: “He GREW UP with the cubs, though they, of course, were grown wolves almost before he was a child. And FARTHER WOLF taught him his business, and the meaning of things in the jungle, till every rustle in the GRASS, every BREATH of the warm night air, every note of the owls above his head, every scratch of the bat’s claws as it roosted for a while in a TREE, and every SPLASH of every little fish jumping in a pool meant just as much to him as the work of his office means to a business MAN.”

Six Of Crows and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

These books are way too beautiful to exist. The fact that the crows have detail to them, but also the fact that the bottom the birds design a castle. Everyone will know these covers, but I couldn’t not add them to this post. I love the red font for Six Of Crows and the swirly lines on each side of ‘Of’. Then I love the black and gold for Crooked Kingdom, as well as the font. What I also love about Crooked Kingdom is the back of it, I don’t know why, but there’s something about the gold details that I really like.

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
The Perks Of Being A WallflowerFirst I’d just like to say I love the blue on this cover, and I think it goes it so well with the black. My favourite thing about this cover is that the writing is inside of the head (I’m presuming it’s Charlie) like it’s been written by chalk, although I don’t know anyone who can write that neatly with chalk. And you can’t see it (duhh) but on the back the bottom half of the body that got cut off carries on, on the back. Also, I don’t know if you can see it on the picture, but at the bottom of Charlie, there’s flowers and I think that’s so cool because it adds onto the wallflower theme.

The Woman In Black by Susan Hill
The Woman In Black.JPGHonestly I think this is just one of my favourite book designs is because The Woman In Black is one of my favourite books, so it has a big soft spot in my heart. I love how there’s swirly details along the edges of the book that look like vines, as well as them being on the back. Then I also like how the woman is all black and it’s like she’s part of the ground and the twigs around her. The font it another thing that I like because I looks like it’s been written in a fountain pen, and it just goes really well with the rest of the cover.

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
Cruel Beauty.JPGI think I would be pretty stupid to not add this book to this post. I don’t even need to explain why I love it, but I’m going to anyway. Firstly, I would like to appreciate the font, it’s nothing special but I just wanted to say that I really like the C and the B. Now the main reason why this is beautiful: I think it’s amazing how they made the stairs mash with petals to make it look like a rose, and because it’s a Beauty And The Beast re-telling it makes sense a lot of sense for it to be that way (that last bit flew away from me and there’s no fixing it at this point, sorry).

Everless by Sara Holland
Everless.JPGI think it’s amazing how they incorporated the hour lass and blood together for the cover. So, blood can be extracted prom people and bound to iron coins. The richer you are, the more time you have to live while the poor bleed themselves dry for money. So having the blood run through the hour glass I think is very creative. Then there’s also how the blood is shaped to look like a female in the top half, and then the bottom half the blood is shaped into a castle.

And that is all of the books I’ll be showing. I have other books that I normally think are pretty, but while I was looking through my bookshelf none of the other covers stuck out to me like the ones I have already talked about did. When I get more books, or when some other books stick out to me I’ll probably do a part 2 of this, but that could be ages away. And please, tell me what some of the beautiful books you own are, I love looking at pretty books so the more the merrier 🙂

P.s. The ‘cover photo’ didn’t really go as planned. The top went to pot (it’s why they are crossed) and I didn’t add two of the book in. I also had to put an old small jewellery box under the floppy book on the 3rd row to keep it up right. So I hope you appreciate my “hard” work.

A New Month

Hey guys,

“Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life” – Mark Twain

So last month was a bit of a dull month for posts. So in this post I will be talking about things I would have don’t last month.

So the first thing:
I only read one book this month 😥 It’s not like I haven’t tried (I’ve picked up 2 other books, I’ve just been in a reading slump and it sucks. The book I read was:
Legendary by Stephanie Garber
Legendary.JPGI waited a year for this book, and it was sooooo worth the wait! I loved this more then Caraval, which is saying something considering how much I love that! I honestly had no idea what was going to happen at the end of this book, and then the ending happened! I’m still trying to wrap my brain around it, it was so good and mind blowing! *miner spoilers* I wasn’t too fond of Tella in Caraval (although I thought the thought of what she did was amazing), but I loved her in Legendary. Because I have soooo much to say about this book I’ll be doing a review about this, which will be very spoiler heavy! It should be surprise that I gave this book a 5/5 stars on Goodreads.

The next thing is, I have bought a looooot of books this month. I like it’s a crazy amount, so here we go (because there’s a lot I’ll just be listing them off with photos)
Legendary by Stephanie Garber
(I’ve already put the pick above)
Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre (both in one)
Bronte SistersThe Cousins War Series (2-4) by Philippa Gregory:
  The Red Queen
  The Lady Of The Rivers
  The Kingmakers Daughter
  The White Princess

The Lovely BonesThe Moonlight Dreamers by Siobhan Curham
The Moonlight DreamersThe Orchard by Drusilla Modjeska
The Orchard.JPGSwitched by Amanda Hocking
SwitchedGirl Online by Zoe Sugg
Girl Online.JPGSo that’s a lot of books, and definitely a lot more than I would usually buy, but I’m not complaining.

I would also like to point out that I have an Instagram account. I’ve put the link at the bottom of my posts, but I’ve never really told you (or anyone) to follow it. That’s changing today, I’ve deleted my old photos and I’ve started fresh, I now have 11 posts up and I am currently doing the #EvilQueenReadsHamilton book challenge and I’m really enjoying it (especially since its Hamilton, I’ve been listening to the Soundtrack non stop lately, and I’m not going to lie, I WANT TICKETS!! 😥 ). I’d really appreciate it if you could go and check it out! The link is here: https://www.instagram.com/booksxemma/

And that’s all there is! I will be posting a lot more this month than I was last month!

My Favourite Summer Reads Reads

Hey guys,

“A room without books is like a body without a soul” – Marcus Tullius Cicero

So the fist Top 5 Wednesday of the month has been in my drafts for a while, and because its Wednesdays again, I though I’d post it now (I know there’s another T5W to do but I don’t have any books for that). And, I already have a Summer Reads Recommendation post, but it’s not the best, so I thought re-do the old one and make my drafted T5W a big post. So now, instead of it being recommended read, it’s my favourite Summer Reads (and there’s more than 5).

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chobosky
The Perks Of Being A Wallflower“Charlie’s not the biggest geek in high school, but he’s by no means popular. Shy, introspective, intelligent, yet socially awkward, Charlie is a wallflower, standing on the threshold of his life whilst watching everyone else live theirs.
As Charlie tries to navigate his way through uncharted territory – the world of first dates and mix tapes, family dramas and new friends – he realises that he can’t stay on the side lines forever. There comes a time when you have to see what life looks like from the dance floor.”                                                                                                                                        Honestly, I’m not too sure why this is a good summer read for me. Yes, it takes place during high school, but I think the feelings you get while reading this book is perfect for the summer. This is such a great book that a lot of people relate to, and that’s one of the reasons why it’s great.

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green
The Fault In Our Stars“Despite the tumour-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist names Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.”
This book plays with your emotions (a lot), it is also filled with some fun scenes that helps give it a light hearted feel before we’re all on a roller-coaster that only goes down 😉 The words suck you in and it makes you forget about how sad you know you’re going to be at the end, which makes you fall down the rabbit hole of tears unexpectedly. And in my opinion, that makes this a good summer read.

The Art Of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson
The Art Of Being Normal“Two outsiders. Two secrets. David longs to be a girl. Leo wants to be invisible. When Leo stands up for David in a fight, an unlikely friendship forms. But things are about to get messy. Because at Eden Park School secrets have a funny habit of not staying secret for long…”
This book is very light hearted (which is great for a summer read), but it also knows how to leave an impact. Reading this you truly understand how hard it can be for someone who is labelled ‘different’, and it helps you appreciate the smaller things.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman
If I Stay“A cold February morning… A snowy road… And suddenly all of Mia’s choices are gone. Except one. As alone as she’ll ever be, Mia must make the most difficult choice of all.”
This is a contemporary book, and for me that makes me think of a summer read, but it’s also a different kind of contemporary which is why I love it. It has an adorable romance in it that’s shown in a different way than most books show teen love. It’s a beautiful story that’s beautifully told.

Paper Towns by John Green
Paper Towns“Quentin Jacobsen has spent a lifetime loving the magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar. So when she cracks open a window and climbs into his life—dressed like a ninja and summoning him for an ingenious campaign of revenge—he follows. After their all-nighter ends, and a new day breaks, Q arrives at school to discover that Margo, always an enigma, has now become a mystery. But Q soon learns that there are clues—and they’re for him. Urged down a disconnected path, the closer he gets, the less Q sees the girl he thought he knew.”
The reason why this is in here is because it has a road trip in it. And when I think of road trips I think of summer. Also this takes place as school is ending, which happens in summer… I will admit, the ending isn’t as great as I hoped it would have been, but it’s still an enjoyable summer read. If you want to know my full thoughts (spoiler free) on this book, click HERE for my review.

Me And Earl And The Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews
Me And Earl And The Dying Girl“Greg Gaines is the last master of high school espionage, able to disappear at will into any social environment. He has only one friend, Earl, and together they spend their time making movies, their own incomprehensible versions of Coppola and Herzog cult classics.
Until Greg’s mother forces him to rekindle his childhood friendship with Rachel.
Rachel has been diagnosed with leukemia – cue extreme adolescent awkwardness – but a parental mandate has been issued and must be obeyed. When Rachel stops treatment, Greg and Earl decide the thing to do is to make a film for her, which turns into the Worst Film Ever Made and becomes a turning point in each of their lives.
And all at once Greg must abandon invisibility and stand in the spotlight.”
Honestly, I don’t know why I like reading this in the summer so much. I think it could be to do with the fact that it’s a funny book. The writing style is also very different, which is great and refreshing, and I think that helps add to the summery feeling I get when I think of/read this book.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowel
Fangirl“Cath and Wren are identical twins and until recently they did absolutely everything together. Now they’re off to university and Wren’s decided she doesn’t want to be one half of a pair anymore – she wants to dance, meet boys, go to parties and let loose. It’s not so easy for Cath. She would rather bury herself in the fanfiction she writes where there’s romance far more intense than anything she’s experienced in real life.
Now Cath has to decide whether she’s ready to open her heart to new people and new experiences, and she’s realising that there’s more to learn than she ever thought possible.”
The reason why this has a summer feel for me is because that’s when I first read it. The cover is a big push as well, because it’s a ice fresh green colour. Some people might think this is just a quirky read about a fangirl with nothing much to it, but it’s so much more. There’s so much scattered through it and it is amazing, you will not regret reading this at all!

Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
Alice's Adventures In Wonderland“After a tumble down the rabbit hole, Alice finds herself far away from home in the absurd world of Wonderland. As mind-bending as it is delightful, Lewis Carroll’s 1865 novel is pure magic for young and old alike.”
Wonderland is colourful, summer is colourful, how could I not have this in here? There’s something about the way this book is written that gets me lost in its pages. I’ve read this book a few times, and each time I read it, I fall in love even more. It’s a truly beautiful book.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Little Women“A talented tomboy and author-to-be Jo, tragically frail Beth, beautiful Meg, and romantic, spoiled Amy, united in their devotion to each other and their struggles to survive in New England during the Civil War.”
Thinking of this book makes me happy and being happy reminds me of summer. It’s such a nice story to read outside and enjoy the sun. This book is so amazingly written and I sometimes think that some people forget about it, which upsets me because this book does not deserve to be forgotten. Little Women is a master piece and I love it.

And that is the end of this post. If you haven’t read a book that is on this list, I suggest you do because you won’t regret it. And I live in Australia now, so even though it’s Winter it’s still soooo hot, which means I’ll probably be re reading some of these in the near future.  If there’s somethings you think I could improve on, tell me, because I’m always looking for ways to improve 🙂                                                                                                                      I’m also re-doing my Instagram (making it prettier than it is now) so go follow that (the link will be at the end), obviously there will be very little photos on at the moment (there is only 1 as I’m typing this) but more will come.

Till next time                                                                                                                               Byeeeeeeeeee

The Journey Begins

Hey guys,                                                                                                                                     Thanks for joining me!

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me” – C.S. Lewis

The first thing I’d like to say is that I have already made a blog. What I’m going to do is put a link at the end of this that takes you to the older blog. I am not going to re do any of my existing posts (which is why I’m giving you a link to it), instead I’m going to carry on where I left off. I might re-do some post that I know could be better, but most of the smaller (and slightly ridiculous) will be staying untouched on there.                                  My Old Blog

Just like my old blog, I’ll be posting on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If I ever don’t post then, the post will up the next day. Because this is going to be put up today (Friday), I might not be able to write up another post in time for tomorrow, so the next one won’t be up until Wednesday.

Also, if any of you have any constructive criticism, don’t be afraid to tell me, I’ll always be looking for ways to improve..

I look forward to writing more of these!
