Tolkien Tag

Hey guys,

“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world” ~ J.R.R. Tolkien

I’ve been really into Lord Of The Rings again, I’ve grew up with Tolkien’s world and I’ve just been in a big mood for his work lately. So without further ado, let’s get into it!
This tag was created by Andrea Heckler on YouTube so go and check out her channel!

1. How did your Middle Earth begin?
My dad own all three Lord Of The Rings extended editions on DVD, and when I was about 8ish I walked in on my dad watching the first one and I thought it looked cool so he let me watch them with him. Two fun facts for you: 1) When I was younger I could never fall asleep to silence so my mam and dad would let me fall asleep with my TV on and then turned it off for me when I was fully out and Lord Of The Rings always calmed me somehow so that would always be my go to movie to fall asleep to when it was available. 2) Because my dad brought me up with the extended editions I was so used to having all them extra scenes, which led to me not being able to watch my mams normal DVD’s because I found it too boring and short. So I’ve only watched the original length DVDs once, it’s a bit of a problem since the extended DVDs are about 4 hours each, but 4 hours of Middle Earth each movie is totally worth it in my opinion.

2. What is your favourite Middle Earth book?
The Peoples Of Middle Earth by Christopher Tolkien
I don’t own this book but my dad does (there’s a mini theme here lmao) and I’ve read the majority of it and I find it fascinating. I love how it’s got more in depth information about Middle Earth that you wouldn’t really get in the original 4 books. I also really love how it’s written my J.R.R. Tolkien’s son Christopher Tolkien.

3. What is your favourite movie?
I always struggle picking which one is my favourite, but I’ll have to go with it’s Return Of The King. I think it’s an amazing conclusion to the trilogy and the acting was incredible.

4. Movies or books?
I’m going to have to go with books! The movies are great, but the books have so much more detail in them that I love.

5. Who are your favourite characters?
If any of you follow me on Instagram then you’ll know that Legolas is my favourite. Granted he doesn’t get a lot of page time, but he does get a lot more screen time which makes me happy. I also like Merry and Pippin because they bring cheer when things are going a bit dark.

6. What Middle Earth race would you be?
I’d really like to be an Elf, but I don’t have any of the grace they have or half an ounce of their beauty. I’d probably be a Hobbit. I’m not very small but I love food and sleep and nature. I’ve always loved country sides (I lived in one for about 3 or 4 years with my granddad) and Hobbiton (especially the Shire) reminds me of there. So defiantly a Hobbit.

7. Best actor/character casting match?
I really like Ian McKellen as Gandalf, for me no else could be Gandalf, they made the perfect casting choice to get Ian to be Gandalf. It’s the same for Andy Serkis as Gollum, I don’t think I’d like the movie Gollum as much as I do if it was someone else who played him.

8. What is your favourite place in Middle Earth?
Like I said in question 6, Hobbiton really reminds me of the country side and a place I live at for a few years, so as weird as it sounds it sort of strikes familiar with me (if that makes any sense).

9. What is your favourite quote from the books or movies?
My favourite book quote is: “It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
I also love it in The Fellowship Of The Ring when Boromir says: “They have a cave troll”. That line always makes me laugh.

I’m not going to tag anyone because this was just something fun to do to help me get back into the groove of things 🙂 But if you guys have already done this tag, please let me know, I love learning other peoples opinions of J.R.R. Tolkien’s work (and his sons)!

Till next time
